Dixon, Franklin W. The House on the Cliff. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, c1927. Hardy Boys Mystery Stories.

The story of these books' creation is told in Ghost of the Hardy Boys: An Autobiography by Leslie MacFarlane (Toronto: Methuen/Two Continents, c1976). Although they are formula books, they have captured the interest of many a reluctant reader and in the process opened doors to literature.

Dixon, Franklin W. The Secret of the Old Mill. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, c1927. Hardy Boys Mystery Stories.

There never was a Franklin W. Dixon, but there was a Canadian writer called Leslie McFarlane. He created the Hardy Boys and set them on their way.
