In this year, which marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games, the National Archives of Canada, in conjunction with the IV Games of La Francophonie, is proud to present Sporting Lives: Images of Canadian Athletes, a tribute to the men and women who have excelled in professional and amateur sports from the birth of Confederation to the present. All the images were selected from the National Archives’ vast collections of photographs, posters, letters, poems, drawings, philatelic artwork, films and television programs that show our athletes at various stages of their lives, in both competitive and informal settings. The images showcase the way that society has regarded the men and women who have created Canada’s tradition of excellence in sports.

Meet the heroes of today and yesteryear.
