Montreal,
November 18, 2002 - The Library and Archives of Canada is launching Expo
67: A Virtual Experience, an Internet site marking the 35th anniversary of
this international exhibition, which truly was Montreal’s showcase on the
world.
Created
in collaboration with Archives de Montréal, this virtual exhibition will be
launched today at 5 p.m. at the Nouveau Club Soda, 1225 Saint-Laurent
Boulevard, Montreal, by the National Archivist of Canada, Ian E. Wilson.
Well-known Québécois singers and composers Louise Forestier and Stéphane
Venne will also attend the launch. Mr. Venne’s musical composition Hey
friend, say friend became the Expo theme song.
"Like
many Montrealers, I have unforgettable memories of this significant
event," said Louise Forestier. "Expo 67 not only opened the door for
Québécois artists, but also provided a springboard to the international
scene."
Ian E.
Wilson, National Archivist of Canada, is proud to "unveil this virtual
site which will allow many people to live or relive this great moment in
Montreal’s history, and enable future generations to discover it for
themselves."
Like an
enormous album of souvenirs, these virtual pages include over 600 digital
images illustrating such things as the various pavilions on the Expo site,
activities that took place and special guests who attended the event.
