Summary:
DFO must prove to the public that there is no evidence of the ISA virus in BC waters.

Submission:
The department of Fisheries and Oceans is a tax payer funded body. DFO has a fiduciary responsibility to the interests it serves, namely the fish and the ocean, rivers they inhabit. DFO must also be accountable to the public. If there is any indication of ISA virus (as there has been) it is the DFO's responsibility to get their own samples and prove to the public and the scientific community that there is no evidence of the ISA virus contamination in BC waters. Furthermore there must be complete transparency of the those test results to the satisfaction of the scientific community and the people of British Columbia. The cavalier and grossly inadequate response of Minister Ashfield is untenable.
An example of this lack of accountability is that the DFO did not make ISAv a disease which must be reported in salmon farms.
The potential of a ISA virus infection in our wild salmon is too great a risk to us all.

Sincerely,

Susanna Kaljur
