Summary:
DFO is failing to protect wild fish from disease. Salmon farming is spreading ISA-like diseases.

Submission:
VIRUSES MAY COME FROM WILD OR FARMED FISH. THE VIRUS NEEDS TO BE CONTAINED. INFECTED WILD SALMON GET WEAK AND ARE PREDATED OUT OF THE SYSTEM. ONCE A VIRUS GETS INTO A SALMON FARM WITH UP TO A MILLION FISH , IT BLOOMS INTO AN EPIDEMIC , AND SPREADS BACK TO WILD FISH AND OTHER FARMS.
WORST CASE , IT MUTATES AND TRANSFORMS INTO A MORE VIRULENT VIRUS - NO TREATMENTS EXIST.
SALMON FARMS NEED CLOSED CONTAINMENT, AND NEED MONITORING FOR ISA LIKE DISEASES , SELF REGULATION DOES NOT WORK. WE QUARANTINE CHICKENS FOR FEAR OF BIRD FLU - FARMED SALMON SHOULD BE TREATED THE SAME WAY.
AS FOR DFO , THEY ARE FAILING TO PROTECT WILD FISH. TOO MUCH POLITICAL INTERFERENCE FROM GOVERNMENTS WITH SHORT TERM GOALS HAS
UNDERMINED THE ABILITY OF DFO STAFF TO LOOK AFTER WILD FISH. DFO NEEDS TO BE PROACTIVE AND SEARCH FOR ISA, NOT JUST HOPE AND DENY IT DOES NOT EXIST. WE NEED SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS THAT MAY BE A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OPEN NET FARMING, BUT PROTECT THE WILD SALMON.
