Submission: If there is even the slightest chance that open pen fish farming has a negative impact on our wild salmon, through disease, or whatever, then simply have fish farming carried out on land with a proper water filtering system. Surely, we must have leared something from experiences in Norway and Scotland. We cannot trust Canada's DFO to be an immpartial party as to whether the present practice should continue, considering they not only support but promote fish farming in Canada. I do not understand what all the debate is about - just do it - any additional costs related to land based salmon farming will simply be passed on to us as the consumer. This is not about common sense, it is about politics. Remember, when are wild salmon are gone, they are gone, forever. |
