Summary:
The commission should seriously review the role of net-cage salmon farms in the decline of wild sockeye salmon in the Fraser River. Science has shown a clear link between salmon farms and lice infestations of juvenile wild salmon. Salmon farms also encourage the spread of disease, such as bacterial kidney disease and Infectious Hermatopoietic Necrosis, and introduce antibiotics, waste and foreign species into local waters.
