The commission should consider Alaska, which long ago banned open pen salmon farming due to scientific concerns about the health of their native wild species. Salmon runs and fisheries income in Alaska are both healthy and growing.

Submission:
I was recently visiting Alaska and noted that this conservative and business-friendly state does not allow salmon farming in its waters. This state long ago banned open pen salmon farming due to scientific concerns about the health of their native wild species. Salmon runs in this state and fisheries income are both healthy and growing. The fish is also excellent in taste, and I will now ask for Alaskan salmon since I know it will have been caught wild and is part of a sustainable fishery.

I look forward to the day when I can once again buy BC salmon with pride and joy.
