Submitter: VENUS Network and the University of Victoria

Community: Victoria

Date Submitted: September 27, 2011

Summary:
The VENUS cabled network of the University of Victoria has been observing environmental variables (temperature, salinity, oxygen, etc.) continuously since 2008 in the deep waters of the Strait of Georgia off the mouths of the Fraser River. In addition, sonars sense daily vertical migrations of zooplankton, many of which are part of the diet of juvenile salmon, as well as finfish (currently being identified) and whales. We are keenly interested in participating with DFO and other agencies in monitoring the ecosystem and environment of the Strait of Georgia.
