John B. Laskin
Lead Counsel

John B. Laskin is a senior partner in the Toronto office of Torys LLP. He has a wide-ranging litigation practice, with emphases on administrative and constitutional law, competition law and class actions. He has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada, in the Federal Courts, in the courts of Ontario and other provinces across Canada, in domestic and international arbitrations and before a variety of administrative tribunals.

A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, John holds an LL.B. from the University of Toronto and an LL.M. from the University of California. He was called to the bar of Ontario in 1979, and to the bar of Alberta in 1987. Before entering private practice in 1982, John was Assistant and then Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law.

John Terry
Co-Lead Counsel

John Terry is a partner in the Toronto office of Torys LLP. He has a broad litigation practice, with an emphasis on public law, international arbitration and trade, and business litigation. He has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada, in the Federal Courts, in the courts of Ontario and other provinces across Canada, in international and domestic arbitration, and before a variety of administrative tribunals.

John is an Adjunct Professor of Public International Law at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Toronto, an LL.M. from Harvard University, and was a clerk to Mr. Justice Peter Cory of the Supreme Court of Canada. Prior to joining Torys, John taught law at the University of Otago, New Zealand, and was a constitutional lawyer and adviser to Cabinet with the Government of Ontario. He was called to the bar of Ontario in 1991.

Daniel Jutras
Special Counsel

Daniel is Professor of Law at McGill University, specializing in civil and comparative law, and is also counsel at the Montreal office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where he specializes in appellate litigation. From 2002 to 2004, he served as Executive Legal Officer to the Supreme Court of Canada. He is a former Director of the Institute of Comparative Law and has served as Associate Dean of the Faculty. A member of the Quebec Bar since 1984, he holds a LL.B from Université de Montréal and a Master of Laws from Harvard University.

Danielle Barot
Senior Counsel

Danielle is a partner at Schurman Longo Grenier in Montreal, where she specializes in criminal law. Her practice also included administrative law, competition law and disciplinary law. She was legal counsel for the Arar Commission. She has appeared before the various courts including trial and appeal courts and tribunals. She was called to Bar of Québec in 1971. She has been a sessional lecturer at the University of Montreal Law Faculty. She holds an LL.L. from Université de Montréal.

Simon Richard
Counsel

Simon practises law with the firm Trudel Nadeau of Montréal. He specializes in criminal law as well as in the field of police ethics. Simon acted as counsel for the Commission of Inquiry into the Sponsorship Program and Advertising Activities of the Government of Canada. He holds a Bachelor of Law from the Université de Montréal and was called to the Quebec Bar in 2002.

Jennifer Conroy
Counsel

Jennifer is an associate in the litigation department of Torys LLP in Toronto. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004, and has appeared as counsel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal, as well as the Federal Court. She holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, and was clerk to Mr. Justice John Major of the Supreme Court of Canada.

Tessa Kroeker
Counsel

Tessa is an associate in the Labour, Employment and Human Rights Department at Fasken Martineau DuMoulin in Toronto. She is a Board member of the Canadian Lawyers Association for International Human Rights. She holds a LL.B from Dalhousie University and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2004. She is also a member of the Bar of British Columbia.

Sarah Huggins
Counsel

Sarah is an associate in the litigation department of Torys LLP in Toronto.

She holds an LL.B and a Bachelor of Civil Law from McGill University. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2006.

Annik Wills
Counsel

Annik is a lawyer in Ottawa practicing in the area of criminal law at Wills Law Office.  She was called to the bar in 2005 and has appeared as counsel in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice as well as the Ontario Court of Justice.  She holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, and was clerk to Mme. Justice Gauthier of the Federal Court.
