Ottawa, Dec. 3, 2008 – The Hon.
Jeffrey J. Oliphant, Commissioner of the Commission of Inquiry into Certain
Allegations Respecting Business and Financial Dealings Between Karlheinz Schreiber
and the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, issued the following statement in response
to media stories published earlier today:
“The Commission will not be commenting on the substance of matters related
to the business and financial dealings among the parties before the Commission
of Inquiry. With regard to questions concerning the scope of the inquiry, as
directed by the terms of reference, the Commission must investigate and report
on, among other things, whether there was an agreement reached with Mr. Schreiber
when Mr. Mulroney was still a sitting Prime Minister or a Member of Parliament,
and if so, what was the agreement, when, where and why it was made. The Commission
will hear evidence on these and other issues from the parties and witnesses.
