Mandate of the Commission of Inquiry
Mr. Justice Gomery was given two mandates: the first, to report on questions raised by the November 2003 Report of the Auditor General of Canada with regard to sponsorship and advertising activities; and the second, to make recommendations to prevent mismanagement of sponsorship and advertising activities in the future and on the respective responsibilities and accountabilities of ministers and public servants.
Consultations Regarding Recommendations for the Future
In addition to the public hearing of witnesses, Justice Gomery was authorized to conduct consultations. The consultations will be concerned only with the second part of the Commission's work, that is, the recommendation phase of the Commission's mandate. Below is a short discussion of the issues and five consultation questions to encourage Canadians to voice their views on management and accountability in government programs.
