10 Reasons to Pursue a Career With us

We have many interesting types of jobs.

Do not hesitate to consult our list of career paths, here at Public Works and Government Services Canada. One might just be what you are looking for.

  1. Keep learning. Build your career through an annual learning plan, which can include courses, mentoring, coaching and on-the-job training.
  2. Earn a good living. Each job has a salary range that brings annual increases to the vast majority of employees, up to a maximum amount. Salaries typically increase by hundreds or thousands of dollars in each of your first few years. When overtime is authorized, you are paid for it.
  3. Advance. The experience you gain in an entry-level job helps you compete for a higher paying job at the next level. Demographics are in your favor too, as many baby boomers will be eligible for retirement in the coming years.
  4. Pension and benefits. You have a wide range of employee benefits, including a pension plan, life insurance, disability insurance, and dental and health care.
  5. Take time off. You are eligible for three weeks of holidays a year to start, up to 15 sick days a year, maternity and parental leave, one personal day, one day for volunteer activities, etc.
  6. Explore flexible work arrangements. Depending on the type of work you do, arrangements such as flexible hours and compressed work weeks may help you balance your personal and work life.
  7. Have many careers in one. Our Department offers a variety of employment opportunities. Whatever your expertise, you will have the chance to develop knowledge and skills in new areas, as well as explore opportunities in other departments and regions when on assignments.
  8. Commitment to Employment Equity. PWGSC was recognized as one of the best Diversity Employers in Canada. We offer an inclusive and diverse work environment where we acknowledge the value of Canadians’ characteristics.
  9. Do interesting and challenging work. It's not unusual to find yourself working on issues with high visibility. But even if you don't, there's plenty of satisfaction in just finding your niche and doing what you do best.
  10. Make a difference. No matter what role you play, you are serving Canadians.
