Le Premier ministre Jean Chrétien a annoncé aujourd'hui des changements de responsabilités ministérielles.

Le ministre de l’Industrie, l’honorable Allan Rock, devient responsable des fonds d’infrastructure stratégique du gouvernement. Le ministre sera appuyé à cet égard par le nouveau Bureau de l’infrastructure du Canada.

Le Premier ministre a conféré au ministre des Transports, l’honorable David Collenette, la responsabilité de cinq sociétés d’État : la Société canadienne d’hypothèques et de logement, la Société canadienne des postes, la Monnaie royale canadienne, la Société immobilière du Canada Limitée et la Queens Quay West Land Corporation. M. Steve Mahoney, qui occupait le poste de secrétaire parlementaire du vice-premier ministre et ministre des Finances, a été nommé à titre de secrétaire parlementaire pour les sociétés d’État, afin d’appuyer le ministre des Transports dans l’exercice de ses nouvelles fonctions.

Tel qu’annoncé le 2 juin 2002, la présidente du Conseil du Trésor, l’honorable Lucienne Robillard, sera responsable des questions de politique portant sur les sociétés d’État.

Le ministre des Travaux publics et des Services gouvernementaux, l’honorable Ralph Goodale, devient responsable du Bureau du Canada sur le règlement des questions des pensionnats autochtones. À l’heure actuelle, le ministre Goodale est l’interlocuteur fédéral auprès des Métis et des Indiens non inscrits. Dans le cadre de ses nouvelles responsabilités, le ministre Goodale tirera avantage de son expérience et de sa compréhension des questions autochtones.

Le vice-premier ministre et ministre des Finances, l’honorable John Manley, demeure responsable des questions frontalières, et continue de présider le Comité spécial des ministres sur la sécurité publique et la lutte contre le terrorisme.
