Alonzo Fowler Kempton, the founder of the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance company was a strong willed, determined, and colourful businessman. His style and enthusiasm were necessary to guide the fledgling company through its first years.
Kemptons most memorable business achievement was obviously founding and heading the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company. However, the character of the previous business ventures that he was involved in before his mutual insurance days show his entrepreneurial spirit and his determination. |

Kempton started up a razor blade company in Wawanesa called Wawanesa Hone. The company distributed razor blades to barbers in Wawanesa and the surrounding area.
Another venture involved crafting a better wagon seat. Kempton was convinced that he could create a wagon seat that was far more comfortable than the common seat. The Wawanesa Wagon Seat Company produced these seats for a number of years. One of Kemptons other endeavours included the invention and marketing of a popular and effective hemorrhoid cure. It is quite clear that Kempton had a great diversity of ideas, a nimble mind, and a lot of determination. |
