Many people and organizations were willing to give their advice and help in organizing the exhibition "Cultivating Canadian Gardens". Among them were the following:

Landscape historian Pleasance Crawford, who welcomed me into her library and gave me a quick introduction to the books and publications that tell the story of gardening in Canada.

Celine Arsenault from the library of the Jardin botanique de Montréal, who introduced me to a number of valuable items in its collection.

Linda Brownlee from the library of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton, Ontario, who allowed me free run of the library and organized the loan of some of its many early nursery catalogues, from the collection of the Centre for Canadian Historical Horticultural Studies.

Leonard G. Lee, President of Lee Valley Tools Ltd., who took time to tell me about his early experiences in the field and was willing to lend some of the tools from his antique collection.

David Richardson and Susan Jenkins, at the National Museum of Science and Technology who gave advice and assistance in finding material in the Museums's collection.

Heather Apple of Seeds of Diversity (formerly the Heritage Seed Program), who helped me research the history of the orgainization.

Harry Pietersma, Interpretation Centre at Upper Canada Village, who allowed me to spend a useful day in the library.

Sheila Fischman, who lent me her expertise as one of our foremost literary translators.

Elisabeth Marchaudon, who guided me through the relevant material in her bookstore, Librarie Hermes, in Montreal.

Nancy Newman, my neighbour and an Ontario Master Gardener, for her constant good advice and friendship.

Nora Hague and Heather McNabb, who helped me find relevant photographs in the Notman Archives in Montreal.

Staff members of the Ontario Archives and Edwards Gardens in Toronto, and, in particular, the National Library of Canada who have been unfailingly helpful throughout my research.
