The Devonian Botanic Garden was established by the University of Alberta in 1959. Beautifully situated in an area of rolling hills just outside Edmonton, its 87 hectares encompass a wide range of gardens and collections including a native peoples garden with plants identified in Cree syllabics, a hedged herb garden, and many other microclimate plots and dells.
The Blue Poppy (Meconopsis betonicifolia), a native of the Himalayas, can be found in the Blue Garden, and is the floral emblem of the Devonian Botanic Garden. |

The Friends of the Devonian Botanic Garden support its activities and have been publishing an informative newsletter, Kinnikinnick (the native word for both Arctostaphylos uva-ursi and Cornus stolonifera) since 1974. |
