Colleague Thomas Pashby recalls: "Many general practitioners go on to specialize, but Harry Hall reversed the trend and after having a referral practice in internal medicine decided to become a family doctor at 1050 Avenue Rd. in Toronto, where he practised for 53 years. He told me the reason for change was that a referral practice had no follow-up, which meant he saw the patients only once. 'I wanted to see them in their homes, see the family, deliver their babies, become part of the family.' "

Died July 3, 2000, aged 79; survived by his wife, Dorothy, and 3 children. His obituary in the National Post stated: "In the days before medicare he never sent a bill, taking payment mostly in fish, farm products or not at all. He never turned anyone away and would make house calls on a snowplow or horse and wagon to make it through the snow. Despite failing health, he continued to visit patients at Inverness Hospital as his wife pushed his wheelchair from room to room." He also spent 15 years as a Tory member of the provincial legislature. "Patients who came to see him could get their blood pressure checked and a promise to have their road graded in the same visit," his obituary stated.
