Cashman, T. Leo, Nelson, BC; University of Ottawa, 1953; former staff, Pembroke Civic Hospital; associate staff, Pembroke General Hospital. Died Nov. 2, 2000, aged 77.

Coleman, Herbert M., Guelph, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1934; wing commander, RCAF medical services, WW II, and former treatment supervisor, RCAF personnel, Christie Street and Sunnybrook veterans' hospitals; FRCS(Ed.), FRCSC; former chief, orthopedic surgery, Toronto East General Orthopaedic Hospital. Died Feb. 19, 2001, aged 89; survived by his wife, Barbara, and 3 sons. Friend and colleague Howard Cameron observed: "A man of all seasons, Herb was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and sportsman who participated in big game hunting, fishing, skiing, curling, golf and bridge. In retirement, horticulture, gardening, inventing, astronomy, travelling and participation in community projects were added to his list of interests."

Johnson, Robert H., Cobourg, Ont.; University of Toronto, 1948; pediatrics; FRCPC; former staff, Hospital for Sick Children, Queensway and Mississauga hospitals; addiction medicine physician, Donwood Institute; consultant, staff, pediatrics, Clarke Institute; assistant professor, University of Toronto. Died Jan. 3, 2001, aged 76; survived by his wife, Frances, and 4 children. His obituary stated: "To many he was simply Dr. Bob. Complete with full beard, he spent his cherished summers on the family island in Georgian Bay."

Kergin, Alan J., New Westminster, BC; University of Toronto, 1945; general surgery; DABS, FACS, FRCSC; former staff, Royal Columbian, Surrey Memorial and St. Mary's hospitals. Died Jan. 3, 2001, aged 79.

Lafond, André, Trois-Rivières (Qué.); Université Laval, 1954; médecine interne; FRCPC. Décédé le 6 décembre 2000, à l'âge de 73 ans.

Lahman (Abron), Rose, Atlanta; University of Toronto, 1932; Died Jan. 7, 2001, aged 93; survived by a son. Her obituary stated: "She officially retired in 1990, but continued to see herself as a doctor until the day she died."

Leach, James E., Ottawa; Queen's University, 1943; dermatology; CRCPC; former staff, Ottawa Civic, Riverside, and Grace General hospitals. Died Jan. 9, 2001, aged 82.

Mailloux, Jean L. , Montréal (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1953; ancien membre honoraire du personnel du Centre hospitalier de Verdun; directeur du service médical de Merck Frosst Canada Inc. Décédé le 10 novembre 2000, à l'âge de 71 ans.

Palacios, Eduardo, Toronto; University of Madrid (Spain), 1954; MCFP; former staff, family practice unit, Doctors Hospital; medical director, Canadian Amateur Boxing Association. Died of cancer Dec. 25, 2000, aged 70; survived by his wife and 4 children.

Pelletier, J. Gilles, Val-Morin (Qué.); Université de Montréal, 1965; psychiatrie; ancien membre du personnel de l'Hôpital Jean-Talon. Décédé le 13 décembre 2000, à l'âge de 59 ans.

Platt, John C., Mississauga, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1957; former associate executive medical director and vice-president, medical affairs and research, St. Michael's Hospital; assistant professor, School of Health Administration, University of Toronto. Died Dec. 30, 2000, aged 69; survived by 3 sons.

Smith, Kevin P., Halifax; Dalhousie University, 1954; CCFP, FCFP; former team physician, Halifax Junior Canadians, Nova Scotia Voyagers and Halifax Mooseheads; founding member and president, Halifax chapter, College of Family Physicians of Canada; chair, Medical Board, Halifax Infirmary. Died Jan. 5, 2001, aged 71; survived by his wife, Dr. Marjorie. He established the Spryfield Medical Centre, where he practised with his wife for 44 years.

Walls, Robert W., Waterloo, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1954; family medicine; CCFP; former staff, Kitchener-Waterloo and St. Mary's General hospitals; Freeport Hospital; adviser, Kitchener Branch, Canadian Diabetic Society. Died Jan. 9, 2001, aged 76; survived by his wife, Elaine, 3 children and 2 stepchildren. His obituary stated: "For 44 years he was a well-respected family physician in Kitchener-Waterloo, and 40 of those years were spent in partnership with his friend, Dr. Helmut Mathies."

Wener, Joseph, Montreal; McGill University, 1941; internal medicine; DABIM, FACP, FACC, FRCPC; former associate physician, Jewish General and Royal Victoria hospitals; lecturer, McGill University. Died Nov. 28, 2000, aged 83.

Zarzour, Ernest J., Windsor, Ont.; University of Western Ontario, 1959; ophthalmology; FRCSC; former chief, Department of Ophthalmology, Windsor Regional and Hotel-Dieu – Grace hospitals; president, Essex County Medical Society. Died of a heart attack Dec. 30, 2000, aged 70. He developed a national reputation for lens-implant surgery. The Windsor Star reported: "He was a devoted father, a practical joker, a man who was generous to a fault and possessed of an intense love of life. He loved golf and played a mean blues harmonica. In among his medical journals and charts were a magician's top hat and a yo-yo."

Zbeetnoff, Peter, Langenburg, Sask.; University of Manitoba, 1953; former staff, Langenburg Union Hospital. Died Dec. 26, 2000, aged 79.
