His obituary stated: "He was an avid bridge player and keen history buff, a voracious reader, an enthusiastic gardener and a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren. His retirement was well spent."

Died of heart failure Sept. 19, 2000, aged 75; survived by his wife, Evelyn, and 5 children. He and his wife challenged Calgary Foothills Hospital to take a chance and allow Evelyn to donate a kidney to him because he was spending 21 hours a week commuting from Banff to Calgary for dialysis. The Globe and Mail reported: "The surgery gave her husband back to her. 'I got as much out of it as he did.' "

Allan, St. John's; Dalhousie University, 1959; psychiatry; FRCPC; former staff and director, Psychiatric Day Care Centre, St. Clare's Mercy Hospital; staff, Salvation Army Grace General Hospital; consultant, Dr. Charles A. Janeway Child Health Centre; clinical associate, Department of Psychiatry, Memorial University. Died of cancer Sept. 14, 2000, aged 66; survived by his wife, Cathy, and 6 children.

Died Oct. 4, 2000, aged 89; survived by his wife, Agnes, and 4 children. He and his wife served as United Church of Canada missionaries in China.

Tiltins, Mirdza, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.; University of Riga (Latvia), 1942; MCFP; former staff, Plummer Memorial and Sault Ste. Marie General hospitals. Died Sept. 10, 2000, aged 84; survived by 2 children. She was the first woman to practise family medicine in the Soo. Her obituary stated: "She loved gardening and flowers. If she touched you in some way, we urge you to plant a flower bulb for her. When it blooms next year it will bring joy and beauty to you and others, as she did to so many."
