Managed Computing is a program that will result in efficiencies and enhance network security on campus.  This acquisition model is designed for administrative units and any other interested faculties and departments.  The pricing negotiated by the Desktop Standards Advisory Committee is extremely competitive, so we are pleased to be able to provide these products to anyone ordering on a University of Manitoba Requisition to purchase.

To ensure stability of University business on Managed Computing systems, IST recommends the continued use of Windows XP Pro until the MS VISTA operating system has been tested with critical University applications. The images provided for all selected models will have Windows XP Pro until further notice. (Jan 23, 2008)

A menu of 4 computer brands with their standard and advanced desktop and notebook models that meet the campus’ minimum standards are available below to make your selection and ordering simple.

Please choose one of the brand names which have been selected by the Desktop Standards Advisory Committee.  Your department may have a preference, so please consult with your local IT support staff.

  • Then choose model A or B, desktop or notebook model as per your requirements.  Model A is suitable for Administrative use (VIP, Banner, MS Office and Student Finances), model B is suitable for graphics and computation intensive applications.
  • Select the warranty, imaging and other options that suit your needs. 
  • Print out the PDF (requires Adobe Acrobat reader 7.0 or higher) and attach it to a requisition with the name and address of your local IT support staff to whom we will have your system delivered.
  • You can submit your requisition and product selection PDF to Computers on Campus by fax (474-7556), mail or walk it over.
