Yeah, that one
on the left. It's a simple cotton
vest I designed for myself a while
ago. I put in short rows to improve
the fit, and it's not a bad vest,
but it's nothing spectacular.
But people go
nuts with the compliments when
I wear it. And I finallly realized
why. It's the color. Happy bright
turquoise.
If you're like
most of us, you've got a lot of
pretty tame colors in your handknits.
Because they're safe. We think
we won't tire of them. We often
save the bright stuff for our feet
or hands -- screaming-golden sock
yarn seems less threatening than
a screaming-golden cardigan. Except
maybe we shouldn't. Maybe we need
some color on us,
especially in our sweaters.
This issue, we're
full of sunny colors, represented
happily by the Good
Day Sunshine shawl
on our cover. Sweaters and shawls
and, of course, socks, appear in
bright, saturated colors.
Now it's
your turn. Don't hesitate the next
time you're at your LYS. Pick something
that makes your eyes sparkle more
or your cheeks look rosier. There's
plenty of time for grey, brown
and black when fall and winter
return. Grab some color and celebrate
the return of sunshine!
Once again, our
awesome Advertisers have been very
generous, and our contest
page will certainly send your
covet bone into spasms of wanting.
We're glad to oblige.
Did you know
that the
best way you can support Knitty
is to click on the ads of our
Advertisers, and buy something
when you need to? It's
true.
Nothing tells them that they are
selling what you're interested
in better than speaking with your
wallet. Or Paypal account. Or whatever.
You get the idea.

I recently went
away for a retreat where I knew
only a few people. I went just
for me.
I wasn’t teaching or working
in any way. I went to learn and
to remember.
When you work
doing what you love, especially
with lots of deadlines, sometimes
you can forget the joy of just
spinning or knitting.
When I went away,
I met new people, took classes,
learned new things and
remembered how much I love spinning
and knitting and how lucky I am
to do the
job that I do.
Thank you for reading and loving
Knitty and Knittyspin. Thank you
for allowing
Amy, me, all of our designers and
writers to share what we love with
you.
In this issue of Knittyspin you
can give
your wheel a spa day in
the Knittyspin
Glossary with Lee Juvan, you can
spin fine Shetland and knit the
Boscobel lace
shawl, by Michaela Moores, or you
can spin and knit yourself a short-sleeved
swingy
cardigan, Grande
Plage Cardigan by Claudia Geiger.
No matter what
your plans are for the spring and
summer, I wish you days full of
renewal and lots of spinning!
