Foreign Nationals arrested for immigration violations

Bradford West Gwillimbury , Ontario, April 2, 2009 – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the South Simcoe Police Service announced today the arrest of over 70 individuals, who are alleged to be in violation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), following a search on a number of residences and three businesses in the town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. A criminal warrant was also executed by the CBSA's Criminal Investigations Division.

A three-month investigation was conducted by the CBSA with the assistance of the South Simcoe Police Service into allegations of IRPA violations.

The Government of Canada continues to take these issues very seriously and remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of our communities. Foreign nationals who wish to live and work in Canada must do so according to Canadian laws.

Persons found in violation of the provisions of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act may be deemed inadmissible to Canada and may be deported from Canada.

As the investigation unfolds, the CBSA and South Simcoe Police Service will provide additional information.
