Montréal, Quebec, November 26, 2008 — The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today confirmed that it deported Jean-Yves Brutus, a 26-year-old Montréal man associated with a street gang. Mr. Brutus, nicknamed “Blaze” in the Crack Down Posse street gang, was returned to Haiti under escort by CBSA officers on November 26.
Mr. Brutus had been convicted of several criminal offences including assault, assault with a weapon, robbery, making death threats, breaching conditions and obstructing justice. Mr. Brutus is the second member of a Montréal street gang to be deported to Haiti this fall. In September, CBSA officers removed 31-year-old Clinton St-Thomas to Haiti for criminal offences related to his association with the Pelletier Street gang.
The CBSA is committed to enforcing removal orders against foreign nationals who have been convicted of serious crimes. Canada will not be a safe haven for those who pose a threat to the safety and security of Canadians.
