Other major projects - sea

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) provides procurement services to federal government departments for ship construction or acquisition, repair, refit and maintenance work and disposal for both military and civilian applications. The scope of service includes the development of procurement strategies, specification review and preparation, solicitation for bids, contract management and project management.

  • Two Multi-ship Refit Contracts (estimated total of $900M) was awarded to Irving Shipbuilding Inc. (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Victoria Shipyards Company Ltd. (Victoria, British Columbia) in March 2008.
  • The Combat Systems Integrator Contract (estimated total of $1.4B), awarded to Lockheed Martin Canada (Ottawa, Ontario) in November 2008.

Victoria In-Service Support Contract

The four Victoria-class submarines, procured in 1998 under the Submarine Capability Life Extension project, are being maintained and managed for the life of the fleet, estimated at 15 years, under the Victoria In-Service Support Contract Project.

Halifax Class Modernization/Frigate Life Extension

The Royal Canadian Navy's key ships are 12 Halifax-Class frigates, built between 1992 and 1996. They are now going through a refit and modernization process under the Halifax Class Modernization/Frigate Life Extension (HCM/FELEX) project to extend their lives until new ships are built under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy.
