After working in administrative and accounting environments for years, I decided to return to university to learn more about finance. Once I had my degree, I started looking for a career where I could put my knowledge into practice and enjoy a healthy work-life balance. As I graduated from the Financial Officer Recruitment and Development program, I clearly realized that this was the perfect program for both my career path and my personal development. Besides offering great benefits and a learning plan you won't find anywhere else, the federal public service sets the bar for work-life balance. I chose Public Works and Government Services Canada in particular because, in my opinion, it was the best learning environment, owing to the many financial management fields I could explore there. I've met people whose enthusiasm and team spirit have created a very humane working environment that brings out the best in you. What's more, the offices are in an ideal location, because Place du Portage is easy to get to on foot or by public transit, and there are many services located nearby.

I started my career at Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) working part time as a student. I then competed in an advertised FI-1 appointment process and was selected. Over the years, I've learned a great deal in a number of financial management areas. In fact, the Department offers challenges for people of all interests and professions. Given that PWGSC is a primary service provider for the departments, there are a wide variety of fields and clients, all related to the activities of the federal government. Through our work, which helps keep the government, and thus the country, moving forward, we have a real impact at the national level, which is very rewarding. What's more, all these factors, combined with the knowledge I've acquired in a number of financial management fields, have helped me obtain a management position in the Finance Branch (FB), where the employees are professional, skilled, friendly and dedicated. This work environment helps the FB run smoothly and is the reason why it is always enjoyable to come to work.
