Business Lines
Acquisitions and Compensation
PWGSC provides common services for acquiring goods and services and ensures management of the acquisition process on behalf of federal departments and agencies. It is responsible for administering government contracts and real property contracting. This business line is also responsible for the disposal of the Government of Canada's surplus assets.
As a provider of common services, PWGSC is responsible for activities related to the delivery of compensation, pension and insurance services, and provides training services in this areas.
Information Technology Services
This business line offers services in telecommunications and computer and microcomputer infrastructure in support of government operations, through electronic networks, telephone services, message-handling services and e-commerce, thereby permitting the secure exchange of information and electronic access to all information issued by the Government of Canada. The Quebec Production Centre issues payments and forms on behalf of the Government of Canada.
Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME)
The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises (OSME) is part of the government's Federal Accountability Act and Action Plan. It assists the government in fulfilling its commitment to reform procurement. As the new procurement changes are implemented, PWGSC is ensuring SMEs continue to have access to government procurement opportunities through OSME.
OSME is strengthening access to government business for SMEs through collaboration with industry associations and individual businesses. Areas of focus include training, exchanging information, developing support tools, and recommending procurement policy changes that respond to SMEs and regional issues. The Office is also working within the government to ensure the procurement system treats SMEs fairly by analyzing SMEs access to and performance in government business.
Real Property
PWGSC ensures the management of office buildings and the Government of Canada's joint-use facilities, and various engineering works, such as bridges and dams. It provides a wide range of professional and technical services, including acquisition, management, operation and maintenance, construction, repair and disposal of real estate, as well as information on environmental matters, appraisal, surveying, geomatics and municipal payments in lieu of taxes. PWGSC is also responsible for housing federal departments in Crown buildings or in premises leased from the private sector.
Translation Bureau
The Translation Bureau is a special operating agency that is part of Public Works and Government Services Canada. It provides translation, interpretation, terminology and other linguistic services in both official languages, Canada's Aboriginal languages, and some 100 foreign languages, mostly to federal institutions. This agency also offers terminology products, such as TERMIUM (the Government of Canada's linguistic data bank), writing guides and more than 100 bilingual vocabularies and lexicons on a variety of topics.
