The RCMP's Protective Technical Services organization has the responsibility to:
- research, develop, design, evaluate, provide and implement electronic and mechanical physical security systems required to protect IPPs, VIPs and RCMP personnel and assets, at permanent locations and temporary operational sites;
- serve as the Force’s national policy centre on electronic and mechanical security by providing expertise and by originating standards and best practices for protective technical field sections;
- provide security consultations of federal and VIP sites;
- develop and conduct the armoured vehicle program; and
- support the Force’s role of lead agency in security matters.
