April 1/2000-

Barely two months young, The Charlotte Austin Review has already become a popular site with readers, writers, authors, editors, publishers and fans. From the official February 1st launch date to the end of March, site statistics register a total of 120,000 hits with an average of 2,000 hits per day. This is expected to increase dramatically over time as we reach more readers.

Some of you have found us in the following countries, as per site statistics to date: Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Singapore, Spain, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kindom, and the USA. Welcome to you all.

The rapid success of the site is largely due to a wonderful team of professional reviewers and editors who, like you, love to read and believe in the power of the written word.

Our reviews do not carry a formal rating yet they speak up for the book and for the author. Readers can enjoy browsing through an average of 14 to 16 new reviews every week. This number will increase as more reviewers join us. The site's policy with respect to bookseller association is undergoing change and will likely favor independent publishers and smaller presses in the near future. We regularly feature well-known and lesser authors in interviews, and in reviews of their most recent works. We also bring you regular columns on up-to-the-minute topics and events relating to the publishing industry.

Reviewing activities have expanded to include titles published in the UK and in South Africa, with the expert assistance of two local editors: Rachel A. Hyde as our UK Editor, and Merilyn Tomkins as our South African Editor. Plans include reviews of books by Canadian authors, and this section will debut shortly.

Through it all, our goal remains the same. To bring you a variety of books available and to encourage authors at all stages of their writing careers. We strive to publish fair and professional reviews every time, not literary critiques. I hope you will be with us on this exciting journey of discovery.
