Dying to See You by Margaret Chittenden Kensington Books 320 pages, June 2000 ISBN 1575665611 Reviewed by: Maria Y. Lima From skeletons in flowerbeds to corpses in car trunks, Chaps nightclub owner, Charlie (Charlotte) Plato inadvertently keeps getting involved in murder. In her latest adventure, Charlies friend and fellow owner, Savanna Bristow, convinces Charlie to hold a high school reunion on the premises of the country-western nightclub. After all, she argues, the club could use the extra income. Reluctantly Charlie agrees, only to regret it deeply when the reunion ends with a dead body in the ladies room discovered by guess who? Suspects range from a former beau of Savannas to several other former high school friends, and Charlie begins to investigate - nearly losing her own life in the process. In her inimitable style, Margaret "Meg" Chittenden keeps breathing fresh life into her stories while keeping us amused by our favorite characters. The relationship between Charlie and another Chaps owner Zack Hunter, a former TV star, continues to ask the perennial question - will she or won't she? - while still keeping readers interested in the mystery plot. Megs style is funny, breezy and sometimes irreverent, allowing readers to enjoy a chuckle as they try to solve the mystery along with Charlie. Fifth in the series Dying to See You entertains and amuses while continuing to provide a solid story. |
