In our high-speed society, keeping abreast of new technology can be intimidating. WRITING.COM makes it a little easier for writers who are reluctant to venture out on the information highway.

Organized in a systematic and logical manner, WRITING.COM is a desktop resource that eases the transition. Section one addresses the topic of researching online - citing benefits, disproving myths and defining terminology that is probably familiar, but often misunderstood. Of particular use is the segment that offers step by step instructions for conducting effective keyword searches and determining which type of search utility will achieve the desired results. For instance, many people use Yahoo to conduct searches, but are they aware that it is a Directory and not a Search Engine? Do they know the difference? There is one, and it directly influences the results of the search.

Section two focuses on Internet communication of all types, including chat rooms, newslists, and forums. It begins with the basics of email, including formatting, commonly used abbreviations, and emoticons, then expands into a variety of uses geared toward the writing community. Concrete directions for querying publishers and conducting email interviews are of particular interest to the target audience.

Section three moves into the more sophisticated arena of online publishing, offering advice on web sites, promotion and marketing, and e-publishing ventures. Each chapter concludes with a list of resources applicable to the topic covered. A twenty six page appendix following Section Three offers resources sorted by category.

WRITING.COM is a powerful and concise handbook that might aptly have been titled "Everything a Writer Needs to Know About Working on the Internet But Didn’t Know to Ask." Written in a comfortable, everyday style, it allows readers to find and absorb pertinent information immediately, without having to read through pages of introductory material. However, even writers who are Internet savvy may benefit from the information contained.

WRITING.COM offers tips to help writers speed up their research, expedite and improve communication with publishers and potential clients, find new markets, and promote their existing work.
