Read our review of Irish Nocturnes Read our author interview Chris Arthur was born in Ireland. Before going to university in Scotland, he worked as warden on a nature reserve on the shores of Lough Neagh. Widely published as an essayist and poet on both sides of the Atlantic, his work has appeared in various literary publications, including The American Scholar, Antigonish Review, Centennial Review, Contemporary Review, Dalhousie Review, Descant, Event, Honest Ulsterman, North American Review, Northwest Review, Poetry Ireland Review, Southern Review, Threepenny Review, and the Wascana Review. He holds degrees from the University of Edinburgh, was Gifford Fellow at the University of St. Andrews, and is a winner of both the Akegarasu Haya International Essay Prize and the Beverly Hayne Memorial Award for Young Writers. After working as a TV researcher and briefly as a schoolteacher, he returned to academia. He currently teaches at the University of Wales, Lampeter - the oldest university in England and Wales outside Oxford and Cambridge. Irish Nocturnes, his first book of Irish-themed essays, was published in December 1999 by the Davies Group. A second collection entitled Irish Willow is scheduled for publication early in 2001. |
