Mind Play by Phillip Tomasso III Dry Bones Press 233 pages, February 2000 ISBN 1883938589 Reviewed by Nancy Mehl Read our review of Tenth House by the same author A handful of college students take part in a harmless experiment to make a little money. Three doctors hypnotize them, giving them innocent commands. The evidence is there, on a videotape called the Chicken Tape. But now its ten years later and Randy Cook, cameraman for a local television news station, is having nightmares. Could there be something else beyond the silly, innocent antics recorded on the Chicken Tape? A late night call from the past brings an old girl friend, Gloria Grahm back into his life. Gloria was also involved in the experiments. Now, partially paralyzed by a stroke - and also haunted by nightmares - she seeks Randys help. The governor has been assassinated and the killer is a third member of the long ago research project. Gloria is convinced that something sinister is going on. She believes that what wasnt recorded on the infamous Chicken Tape is the key to their nightmares. It could also explain the reason why she's afraid that she was the one who was supposed to shoot Governor Lippa. Randy, Gloria, and Randys wife Jamie set out to learn the truth but find much more than they bargained for. Tracking down the doctors who initially performed the research, and other student participants who may also be teetering on the edge of sanity, will lead them down a dangerous and deadly path. Phillip Tomasso III crafts an engrossing and edge of your seat tale of deceit, betrayal and murder in MIND PLAY. The characters are three dimensional and believable. This book is almost impossible to put down. I wish the editing had been a little better, however, it didnt distract from the captivating plot. The story line and Mr. Tomassos writing held my interest until the very end. |
