Remember the Genesis planet in the film and the amazing terraforming transformation? What if this useful tool was turned against inhabited planets? It could destroy all life there in an instant, then wash away into space to spread more havoc.

This is what happens in this first book of a new trilogy featuring the
Next Generation crew. Somebody has sprung Dr Carol Marcus (the inventor of Project Genesis nearly a century earlier) from her lonely prison planet and chaos follows hot on the heels of this seemingly trivial incident. The Wave is loose and its first casualty is Pacifica. Only a tiny handful of survivors escape to tell the dreadful tale. It's up to Picard and his crew to think of ways to combat an unseen and genocidal enemy. Can they save the Romulan Empire and Earth’s Federation planets?

This is thrilling stuff. When I closed the book, I was horrified to find out that the next part would only be available in
April 2001. It is an exciting and taut tale populated with familiar characters and some new faces as well. A straightforward and stirring adventure story not to be missed.
