MISSION

Recognising that the current scholarly communication system is in financial crises caused by the predatorial practices of a handful of commercial publishers, and recognising that there is considerable potentials inherent in information technology to reduce the cost of distributing scholarly information, it is the mission of the EJS and ICAAP to demonstrate that high quality, low cost, and non commercial alternatives to the commercial system are possible.

The EJS is thus offered free of charge to individuals, libraries, academic and commercial organizations. It is part of, and a model for, a new publishing paradigm whereby the scholars themselves retain control over all aspects of the scholarly communication process.

The EJS receives free production assistance and expertise from the International Consortium for Alternative Academic Publication (ICAAP). For more information, see the mission statement of ICAAP, the ICAAP homepage, or the following publications.
