Surveillance Evaluation Projects

One of the Field Epidemiologist's Professional Experience Guidelines is to conduct the evaluation of the surveillance of a health event.

The Fall Course is the venue where Field Epidemiologists present their surveillance evaluation projects.

Recent completed surveillance evaluation projects include:

2001

Eleni Galanis (FETP 2000-2002) and co-authors picked up the Foege Award for Outstanding Public Health Intervention at the 2001 International Night at the EIS Conference. Their paper was entitled "Oculo-Respiratory Symptoms Associated with Influenza Immunization, Canada, 2000".

2000

Diane MacDonald (FETP 1999-2001) and co-authors were presented with both the John Snow Award for Excellence in Science (at the 2000 International Night at the EIS Conference) and the Foege Award for Outstanding Public Health Intervention (awarded by the Division of International Health, CDC) at the 2000 Global TEPHINET conference. Diane's paper was entitled "Escherichia coli O157:H7 Outbreak Linked to Salami, British Columbia, Canada, 1999".

Peter Buck (FETP 1997-1999) and co-authors won the 1998 John Snow Award for Excellence in Science for their paper entitled "Would you like a little Salmonella with your sandwich?". This was the first Canadian paper to win this award.
