TopHow to Become a CFEP Placement Supervisor

To apply as a CFEP placement, please complete the online Placement Application (HTML; 17KB) and submit to the CFEP office by December 12, 2008. This online form cannot be saved, so please ensure that you have all of the required information ready before you begin.

The Call for placements ( 73 KB) lists the requirements for CFEP placements, and makes reference to these supporting documents:

CFEP EpiAid Policy ( 57 KB)
Memorandum of Agreement ( 24KB)

Field Epidemiologists are placed in Public Health Agency of Canada and other federal department divisions, provincial ministries of health, local health departments or public health agencies for the duration of their two years of training.

A placement supervisor benefits from the enthusiasm, hard work and expertise of a Field Epidemiologist during their two-year placement and plays an important role in their professional development. Field Epidemiologists report to their placement supervisor for their day-to-day work. They report to the CFEP Directors for their work on EPI-AIDs.

Field Epidemiologists can be involved in the following activities within their placement:

  • Investigation of outbreaks and clusters within the jurisdiction of their placement

  • Analysis of surveillance and epidemiological data

  • Design of epidemiological studies

  • Design or implementation of surveillance systems

  • Evaluation of existing surveillance systems

  • Response to public inquiries

  • Other

A placement supervisor must have adequate epidemiological and public health expertise to supervise a Field Epidemiologist (Field Epidemiology alumnus, MSc or PhD in epidemiology, Community Medicine Fellow or equivalent). The supervisor must be able to commit the equivalent of half a day per week to supervise the Field Epidemiologist.

For more information on how to become a placement supervisor, please contact the CFEP office.
