The Canadian Rural Information Service (CRIS) is a clearinghouse for information relevant to rural Canada. Our subject areas include: rural renewal, community development, funding sources and opportunities for rural youth. CRIS serves rural residents, community organizations, rural businesses, rural practitioners, and government and educational institutions.

The librarians at CRIS can provide the following services:

  • reference services
  • pathfinders on various topics including:
    • rural child care
    • rural tourism
    • programs and services for rural youth
    • resources for starting a business in rural Canada
  • customized information on specific subjects
  • referrals to expert sources of information
  • news releases from the federal government relating to rural issues

CRIS delivers these services through the Internet, telephone, fax, or mail depending on the client's need.
