A block parent is any responsible adult who cares enough about the well-being of children and other persons to volunteer his or her home as a safe refuge in the event of an emergency. In addition to their safety network, Block Parents offer community education programs to increase the personal safety of children, teens and seniors.

Canadian Crime Stoppers Association
Crime Stoppers is a citizen, media and police co-operative program designed to involve the public in the fight against crime. Crime Stoppers provides citizens with a vehicle to anonymously supply the police with information about a crime or potential crime of which they have knowledge. Cash rewards are offered to people who call the program and their information leads to an arrest.

Crime Prevention Funding - Alberta
Alberta Solicitor General promotes and supports the development of community crime prevention initiatives with its Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy. A key part of this strategy is the Community Crime Prevention Grant Fund, which provides up to $10, 000 in funding to non-profit community groups for the development of community-based crime prevention programs.

• The Youth Gang Prevention Fund invests in communities where youth gangs are an existing or emerging threat and supports initiatives that clearly target youth in gangs or at greatest risk of joining gangs. Priority is given to projects that address specific risk and protective factors associated with youth violence and gang membership and will demonstrate results that reduce and prevent the risks of future gun violence and gang activity.

Crime Reduction Toolkit for Rural Crime (U.K.)
People who live in rural areas fall victims to the same types of crime and disorder as people elsewhere and suffer the same types of problems. These problems may be compounded by other aspects of rural life; for example, a lack of services, physical isolation and social exclusion.
