Designed specifically for arts service organizations, the CCA's Chalmers Conferences provide an opportunity for discussion, information and communication around topics of common interest.

As a benefit of membership, CCA organizational members may send one representative to the annual Chalmers Conference free of charge; additional representatives pay the regular registration fee of $150 per person. Recent Chalmers Conferences have also included a special social event which is open to all CCA members.

Ottawa, January 31, 2006 - As the country settles down, post-election, to the realities of a Conservative minority government, the next CCA conference provides a particularly timely opportunity for the cultural community to come together for a sector-wide consultation around cultural policy: what exists, what is still
needed, and how best to get it.

As you already know, CCA’s National Policy Conference, Mapping Canada’s Cultural Policy:
Where do we go from here?, is scheduled for March 3 and 4 in Ottawa. This note is to remind you
that the Chalmers Conference for arts service and other cultural organizations is taking place
immediately before and after the policy conference, and to reiterate how important it is for the voice
of your organization to be heard at this forum.

This year’s Chalmers Conference gives you an unparalleled opportunity to provide input into the
priorities and resulting action plan of the CCA, to ensure the new government knows, understands,
and acts on the priorities of the cultural sector. If you are a CCA organizational member, there is no
additional registration fee to attend the two-part Chalmers Conference; organizations which are not
members pay $150 on top of the policy conference fee. Any organization wishing to bring more
than one representative is encouraged to do so; an additional fee per person applies.

Besides being part of the dialogue, we urge you to ensure your organization’s issues are on the
agenda for discussion. CCA is asking arts service and other cultural organizations to send in their
top three cultural policy issues; these will form part of the Chalmers forum on Thursday afternoon
(March 2). It is also important that your organization be part of the Saturday afternoon (March 4)
discussions on strategies for action and how best to move the issues forward. Please forward your
shortlist of issues to the CCA by Wednesday February 1.

It is imperative that the sector speak loudly, and with one voice! We urge you to register NOW for
both the Chalmers Conference and the National Policy Conference in order to avoid
disappointment.

Ottawa, January 13 2006 - The Canadian Conference of the Arts' annual Chalmers Conference, intended for representatives from arts service and other cultural organizations, is designed to provide targeted information and advocacy assistance to these groups.

Both the 2004 and 2005 Chalmers Conferences were focused on providing tools for arts and culture advocacy. It is now time to move to strategies for action and to put these tools to work in order to achieve shared goals and objectives.

The 2006 Chalmers Conference is particularly timely given the fact that, in the aftermath of the federal election, there will be a new government and a new Parliament. This year's Chalmers Conference, together with the National Policy Conference entitled " Mapping Canada 's Cultural Policy: Where Do We Go From Here?" , give those in the cultural community a unique opportunity to provide the new government and Parliament with a clear indication of the priorities for our sector.

The 2006 Chalmers Conference has been specifically designed to book-end the National Policy Conference to provide arts service and other cultural organizations with an opportunity for more direct input into CCA's strategic work plan than ever before. A discussion paper outlining the key issues identified by these groups will be available prior to the Chalmers Conference.

Chalmers Conference Part I - Thursday 2 March, 3pm-8pm

Plenary session (with simultaneous translation services).
Facilitated discussion of the specific issues identified by arts service and cultural organizations.
Dinner with members of CCA Board and Staff following the session.

The CCA invites your organization to provide us in writing, by Wednesday, February 1 st , with your three top cultural policy issues , together with a brief outline of how they affect your organization and membership. These submissions will provide the basis for the Chalmers Conference Part I discussions and recommendations from the meeting will go forward to the National Policy Conference, which begins on Friday 3 March.

Chalmers Conference Part II - Saturday 4 March, 3.30pm-8pm

A facilitated plenary session (with simultaneous translation services).
This second session provides a unique opportunity for arts service and other cultural organizations to discuss the key elements of the previous couple of days' discussions and to recommend strategies for action. This session will be followed by a dinner with members of CCA Board and staff on Saturday evening.
All recommendations will go forward to CCA's Board session the following day.

This year the CCA is offering a number of "early bird" and group rate incentives for delegates, so please review the conference Registration Form attached to this email. The CCA has also reserved a block of rooms at a discounted rate at our venue, the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
