Does the library subscribe to electronic journals and other resources?

Yes. The library has an extensive collection of online journals, newspapers, magazines, and other resources.

How many books does VPL own?

  • The entire collection is made up of materials in many formats including: books, magazines, newspapers, videocassettes, DVDs, audiocassettes, CDROMs, compact discs, and microforms.
  • The complete Vancouver Public Library collection (i.e. all Branch libraries and Central Branch ) totals over 2.67 million items.
  • The Central Branch owns more than 1.3 million items. Of these 1,237,807 are books, 27,931 are videocassettes, 12,152 are DVDs and 15,418 are compact discs.

How many books are checked out on a typical day?

  • An average of 6,141 items are checked out each day at the Central Library.
