Nuthatches

In the area we have two types of Nuthatches: the

White-breasted and the Red-breasted. The White-breasted Nuthatch is a blue, black and white bird, whereas the Red-breasted Nuthatch is more of a greyish color and has a black and white head and an orange-coloured breast. All Nuthatches are tree-climbers and have strong and pointy beaks. In fact you can usually spot them hanging on the side of a tree, pecking at the bark for bugs. They also feed from birdfeeders in the area. Their calls are a similar yank, yank noise and sound as if it is coming from their nose. Along with the Chickadee, these birds can be seen all year round. They can be spotted in coniferous forests with shade, woodlots, groves, and river woods.
