The Alpine Climate
Climatic data for the Alpine Subregion is spotty both geographically and
over time. Few records are available for the winter period. However, this clearly is the coldest subregion in Alberta with mean May to September temperatures of about 6 degrees Celsius and essentially no frost-free period. Winter temperatures are colder than the
Subalpine Subregion. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 420-850 millimetres and is likely higher for some areas. Greater wind speeds are a factor both in redistributing snow and especially in increasing cooling and evapotranspiration rates.
