This Megillah Esther was made in Istanbul, Turkey sometime in the early 1800s. The silver casing is 35 centimeters high, while the scroll itself (wrapped within the casing) is about 20 centimeters in height. The text is hand written on parchment and is unadorned. The handle is hand carved from ivory. It is decorated with a series of indentations carved into the ivory, circling the cylinder. The top part of this handle widens to provide a surface for the wound scroll to rest on. The part of the handle above the text scroll begins with a platform identical to the one below it. Above the platform two crown shaped pieces of ivory lie a few centimeters apart, they appear to be suspended as they are only attached to the handle at its core. Protruding above these is an oval shaped piece sitting on top of a narrow cone. The top oval has markings on it. Six of these circular marking follow the circumference of the oval while one is placed in the center.
