Kiddush Cups

Kidduh Cup

Kiddush (sanctification) is a ceremony held at the beginning of many Jewish festivals, including Shabbat. During the ceremony blessings are recited over loaves of challah and a cup of wine. The wine is in a kiddush cup. Traditionally kiddush cups were made of gold or silver. Many are etched with images of fruit, often grapes to represent the wine, and sometimes they have animals or birds on them. Often people's names or biblical passages are inscribed on cups. Many people give Kiddush cups as gifts for special occasions such as Bar Mitzvahs.
