Magen David

Magen David

A Magen David is the Hebrew term for the Star of David, or more precisely the Shield of David. The Magen David is a hexagram, a six point star, composed of two interlaced equilateral triangles. The Magen David is one of the most popular symbols of Judaism. At one time the image of the Magen David was often connected with magical powers. Recently, the Magen David has become the symbol of Zionism and is depicted on the Israeli flag. On the occasion of one's Bar/Bat Mitzvah, young Jewish adults may receive as a gift a Magen David charm to wear around their neck.
