This exhibit honors George Normand, six time World Championship Chuckwagons Driver of Bonnyville District.

In memory of George Normand

1977 - |
Started driving chuckwagons at the age of 20, placed tops in points in the Northern Professional Chuckwagon Association for that year.

1978 - |
Started driving professionally, placed 8th out of 32 wagons at the Calgary Stampede.
|
1985 - |
Earned his first World Championship Title, the first time this title went to a Northeastern Alberta driver.

1986 - |
Won the prestigious Joan Lewis Memorial Award for best lead team.

1987 - |
Set two track records, one at Ponoka, a time of 1:00:00, and one at Stettler, a time of 1:03:57. Also won the Alberta Achievement Award for excellence, presented by Premier Don Getty.

1988 - |
George had an excellent year, ending the season with a second place finish behind Tommy Glass.
|
1989 - |
Made the sudden death finals at the Calgary Stampede winning a G.M.C. pick up and bronze trophy.

1991 - |
George again won the World Championship Title.

1992 - |
Won the World Championship Title and tied Kelly Sutherland and the late Ralph Vigen for the 5 time World Championship record.

1993 - |
Won the World Championship Title and broke the record becoming the first ever six time world Championship Chuckwagon Driver.

George Normand, The Bonnyville Bullet
On July 2, 1994 at Ponoka, Alberta, a tragic chuckwagon accident claimed the life of George Normand, a fine athelete, and a community member. This exibit exemplifies the respect and pride of the people of Bonnyville for their hometown hero known fondly as “The Bonnyville Bullet”.
