Many Canadair projects had potential outside of their original markets. The Argus, designed as a Maritime Patrol aircraft, was sucessfully modified and sold to civilian companies as the CL-44 cargo transport. The North Star was sold to both the RCAF as the C-54, and to airlines as the DC-4; the Cosmopolitan went into military and civilian service.
