1950
  • Federal and provincial governments spend $1,359,745 on Sumas and Chilliwack dykes since Flood of 1948.
  • Hon. Harry Bowman officially opens Chilliwack Artificial Insemination Club's new bull farm.
  • Fifteen new Canadians given citizenship at mass ceremony.

1951

  • Local Mennonite group helps new immigrants, who have arrived since the war, learn how to become Canadians.
  • Winter flood covers most of downtown Chilliwack at the end of February.

1952

  • New Chilliwack Court House opened to staff previously housed in the Henderson Block.
  • Chilliwack's long-awaited Five Corners' traffic lights will be in action within a month.

1953

  • Large storage tanks cut milk handling on Sumas Prairie farms, a change from the water-cooled system and milk can storage currently used.
  • Coal and wood still popular fuels for heating Valley homes.
  • The first televised coronation ceremony in history will have a large number of viewers here thirty five sets in operation

1954

  • Chilliwack Soldiers in Korea - members of the 3rd Field Squadron RCE among those sent.
  • Vedder canal site of British Empire Games rowing events. His Royal Highness, Prince Phillip, the Duke of Edinburgh opens the event.

1955

  • TV changing routine of home life here - 2500 sets sold locally.
  • Fair gets nod over Cherry Carnival
  • Bob Blessin, Sardis, lays claim to being the first Canadian kissed by screen star Marilyn Monroe.

1956

  • Trans Canada Airlines Northstar crashes into Mt. Slesse on December 9, killing all 62 on board.
  • City of Gala Mood for opening of Agassiz-Rosedale bridge.

1957

  • 300 people watch as Dr. Robert McCaffrey turns the sod for the new wing at Chilliwack General Hospital.

1958

  • Tanker truck makes first rounds - The familiar milk can is disappearing as more and more producers switch to bulk tanks.
  • Bypass route open, motorists enjoy view.
  • Over 4000 attend Coliseum opening - a spectacular ice show thrills spectators at official opening.

1959

  • Flying saucers whirl and dive above city
  • Large sockeye run recorded at Cultus Lake.
