The field of economic
development is large, and can range anywhere from the growth of small local basket making
enterprises, to community employment initiatives, to resource development agreements with
large corporations.
An EDO is someone who
has been hired to address all the economic development demands in their community, while a
C.E.D. is someone who has been certified by CANDO to do so. Someone with C.E.D.
designation has training and experience that is directly related to the position of EDO.
Anyone who can
register for post-secondary study (based either on a high school diploma or as a mature
student), or who has extensive experience in the field of Aboriginal economic development,
can begin the process of becoming a C.E.D.
Certainly.
Although there is not a direct path of advancement, the skills that a C.E.D.
develops through their training and experience can be used in a wide variety of ways.
The possibilities are endless when it comes to economic development initiatives,
and the parameters of a C.E.D.'s job will expand as their skills grow.
